Apprentice Civil Engineer

The post holder is a member of the Collis Civil Engineering division and reports to the Assurance Director for training and the Civil Engineering Manager for their day to day duties.
  • GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, English & Science
  • Undertaking technical and feasibility studies including site investigations
  • Using a range of computer software for developing detailed designs
  • Undertaking calculations where necessary
  • Liaising with clients and a variety of professionals including engineers and subcontractors
  • Compiling job specs and supervising tendering procedures

General Apprentice

The post holder is usually one of a number of engineering apprentices and reports to the Assurance Director through the Apprentice Mentor.
  • GCSE grade 4 or above in Maths, English & Science
  • Basic Key Skills
  • As a General Apprentice the post holder is required to carry out work as allocated by the Apprentice Mentor or allocated departmental line manager within the boundaries of their skill and competence.
  • The post holder will be expected to work with minimum supervision.  Work will be communicated in written form as drawings, standards and specifications.  Where these are not clear it is the post holder’s duty to ask before proceeding.
  • The post holder is expected to complete to an acceptable standard NVQ & College work within the deadlines set.

COSS - Controller of Site Safety

The post holder is a member of the Civil division and reports firstly to the Civils Supervisor, Civil Engineering Manager and ultimately the Civil Engineering Director.
  • The post holder’s position is deemed as ‘SAFETY CRITICAL’.
  • The post holder is a member of the Civil Engineering Division management team.
  • The post holder may be asked to supervise trainees, juniors and lower skilled personnel. This may include the provision of guidance, basic training and communicating best practice.

The post holder is a member of the Collis Engineering Division and reports to the Operations Manager.
  • The post holder will be expected to work with minimum supervision. Work will be communicated in written form as drawings, standards and specifications. Where these are not clear it is the post holder’s duty to ask before proceeding.
  • Rate of pay is £10.70 per hour.

PTS Track Worker

The post holder is a member of the Civils division and reports firstly to the Civil Supervisor & Projects Supervisor and ultimately the Civil Engineering Director.
  • To understand the scope of the required work to be completed in the relevant shifts.
  • Carry out the work as efficiently and effectively as possible to surpass targets to allow time for any problems that may be encountered.
  • Ensure the team you are with understand any ideas you have about more effective ways of achieving the work.
  • To ensure that working practices and/or standards are adhered to.
  • Mitigate any risks that can be foreseen so that the required work is complete.
  • Ensure that timesheets and time booking is accurately completed and all work, where possible, is allocated to a project.
  • To act as a lookout when required.
  • Arrange with assistance where necessary the tools, equipment, plant, and materials that are needed to carry out the work. This is to be done liaising with the COSS to ensure nothing is missed and all purchases are accounted for via the purchasing requisition/order process.
